Winners Annual Rally

Winners Sports Club, Inc extends an invitation to your organization, to participate of our annual invitational netball rally. The rally is scheduled for Saturday October 8 ,2011 at the Coral Springs Gymnasium; 2501 Coral Springs Drive (between Sample Road and Royal Palm Blvd) Coral Springs Florida. THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

First, thanks be to God for the many blessings He bestowed in my life. It is a privilege and honor as the founder of Winners Sports Club, Inc., to be elected President of the club from its inception to the present. With the respect and love from the members it is my intention to continue to cultivate the growth and further development of sports, in particular, netball in Coral Springs and the surrounding areas in Florida.

This year was very challenging; however we were still able to offer one student a grant of $500 toward her college. We were able to volunteer to teach netball at Hunt Elementary School twice per week. At our annual netball rally celebrating ten years of existence, our special guest was the Vice Mayor of Coral Springs Ms Claudette Bruck who welcomed everyone to the lovely city and made a presentation to Jamaica Police Netball Club for their participation and continual support throughout our 10 year existence. The rally was supported eighteen teams, three of them juniors of which I am so proud because undoubtedly they are our future. Of the fifteen senior teams, there were participants from the Caribbean including Jamaica, British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts &Nevis, along with teams from Florida, Georgia and New York. The uniform parade was won by Jetsetters from the British Virgin Island. The junior division was won Lauderhill angels from Florida, while the senior division was won by aggressive Volcanoes from New York who eradicated the other teams. Volcanoes also won the shooting competition and the most valuable player award went to Anceil Langaigne from Volcanoes. Second place went to Caricom from Florida, with Upsetters from New York finishing in third place. Overall the days games were of a very high standard and was very competitive.

This 10th anniversary year was indeed a statement year that showed we can accomplish whatever you put your mind to accomplish if you are dedicated to seeing it through. Winners was the proud host of the first Male Championships held in the USA. The tournament saw teams coming from as far as Australia and Jamaica, with Jamaica emerging as champions. The championship was of a very high standard and it was indeed a learning experience for all of us in the administrative roles.

Winners would like to extend heartfelt and grateful appreciation to our sponsors Grace Foods USA and Western Union Remittance, Riverside Public Supermarket, SAM’s wholesalers and all the way from Tampa Horus Construction Services Inc. A special thank you must be extended to the many volunteer umpires who are so important to the games, because without them we certainly would not be able to host those tournaments. Thanks to the employees of Coral Springs Gymnasium for keeping the facility safe and clean, making us happy to return.

Winners objective is to promote activities which will enhance the betterment of the community and provide member participation in sports where friendship, sportsmanship and sociability are encouraged.

We plan to seek more assistance from the elected officials, the County and City Parks and Recreation Departments, and the private sector in our effort to establish additional sporting activities for the youth.

In the celebration of our tenth year in existence, we would like to wish everyone a fruitful and productive year and we look forward to seeing you at our annual invitational netball rally scheduled, October 2011, as well as the Male Championships in November of 2011.

On behalf of the club, I express sincere appreciation to the City of Coral Springs Sports Commission, the small businesses in the private sector, the sports clubs, netball teams and, especially Angella Depass and Faith Bryan who have been behind us from the inception.

Coaches Needed

Winners Sports Club in conjunction with Netball America and Hunt Elementary School are seeking persons interested in assisting with coaching and the development of Netball at Hunt Elementary School. Interested volunteers will need to be available from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays. For more information, contact Valarie Passley @ 954-348-5216.

About Winners

The Winners Sports Club was founded in April 2001 following a demonstration of Netball in Coral Springs, Florida. The clubs started with 12 members after another showing in Lauderhill.

A few months following its' inception, the President, Valerie Passley approached the Director of Parks in Coral Springs, Rick Ingles and solicited the use of the Riverside Park at Coral Ridge. This request was granted and this location became our home ground.

With constant growth and expanded horizons, Winners invited Australian coach, Mary Engles to help with ball handling skills and general training. Two months later she returned to Australia, after being satisfied that we had developed tremendously in all the skills necessary to play netball.

Mary’s efforts paid off, a couple of years later Simone Brown and Alecia Hudson who participated in her training sessions were selected to the USA Under21 Squad in preparations for the 2005 World Youth Netball Championships, which were held in Florida, USA.

Every year Winners hosts one of the most organized netball one day tournaments, where at least 12 teams from different countries and the USA compete for prizes. Although Winners have not won any championships, we have taken home the trophy for most disciplined team on numerous occasions over the years.

One of Winners main objectives is to host a tournament for girls 8 through 16 years old. With this in mind, we are in the process of finding sponsors who are ready to buy into the idea that there is a need for development in this area of Sports in the USA.
